There are now over 1,500 objections to the new plan,
including Dr Caroline Lucas MEP, who represents the South East in the
European Parliament.
Caroline is a Green Euro MP, whose concerns include the impact of
greater exposure to pollutants on residents and surrounding conservation
areas.
Caroline concerns are covered in the
local newspapers and highlights the lack of sustainable rail freight
transport consideration.
We strongly believe a massive warehouse distribution centre of the size
of Pyestock should be appropriately located to accommodate rail freight.
It would save over 35 million HGV road kilometres per annum according to
information from other schemes the developer is currently promoting.
One freight train can save up to 100 HGV movements (50 HGV trips).
We have evidence that a smaller rail connected mega depot generates more
actual daily HGV movements than the developer states for Pyestock (over
50% more than the developer’s original daily 600 HGV movements).
Additionally, it also accommodates up to 9 freight trains a day (which
would save up to 900 daily HGV movements)! This example further
demonstrates the Pru has understated their daily HGV movements claim.
If Pyestock is not suitable for rail freight, then it is another
reason why a massive mega depot at Pyestock is not a sustainable
development.
Read
this letter which appeared in April in response to the local
newspaper’s claim that the “developers have amended their plans beyond
all recognition” and try and imagine what if any benefit this proposal
brings to our local communities.
