We have achieved another milestone,
more than 5,000 formal objections received in less than 4 months!
This unprecedented and continually growing number of objections received
by Hart Council demonstrates the strength of local feeling against this
inappropriate mega depot proposal. Further details are given
within the Fleet News

The article includes a Prudential spokesman’s quote “..The proposals
will provide jobs for local people and make significant improvements to
the surrounding local road network.”
However, this proposal does not support the strengths of our local
workforce and is within one of the lowest unemployment areas in the
country. This would result in the majority of staff commuting from
outside our area on a daily basis. This will have an impact on our
already stressed single carriageway roads as well as causing a
disproportionate impact on our local infrastructure and affordable
housing.
We have already challenged the Pru’s misleading statement on ‘improving
the local road network’. However, here is further detail on the
impact and the need for appropriate and sufficient road infrastructure:
The Highways Agency (HA) recently documented their concern about the
addition of 86 cars at the M3 motorway junction 4A during peak times,
based on the potential QEB housing development: “..As the junction is
already at capacity the HA considers that there would be a significant
adverse effect on the M3 J4A in traffic terms and possibly on the nearby
AQMA as well.”
Just one of the many proposed Mega Sheds at Pyestock could generate up
to 250 HGV inbound movements during just one peak hour. So, the
impact would be much more than ‘significantly adverse’!
In fact, a previous development proposal at Pyestock forecast daily
morning peak time gridlock on access roads to/from the M3 J4A and
dangerous queuing onto both the M3 motorway carriageways. This
drawing which shows the projected traffic queuing back onto the M3 does
not include the impact of Pyestock’s mega depot. What will it be
like with the additional HGVs and Pyestock worker traffic??
The previous proposal had significant road infrastructure improvements
recommended, including: widening the Summit Avenue railway bridge and
making the single carriageway Minley Link into three lanes (two lanes
from the M3 J4A). However, the QinetiQ Hub development proposal
was withdrawn and Pyestock North was sold to the Pru during the lead up
to QinetiQ’s controversial flotation

So, it is local people that will suffer as the Pru continually
understate the impact of their mega depot proposals. |
