Pyestock Inquiry starts at 10am, Tuesday 25 November
Developers negotiating
tripling HGV movements to 2,400 movements per day!
The Developers reveal they are seeking permission to triple the
number of Heavy Goods Vehicles, in the lead up to the public inquiry! An
average of over 1.5 HGV movements every single minute (more at peak
times) on a 24 hours/day x 7 days/week basis.
For almost three years SPLAT have argued that the Developers (PruPIM and
Astral Development/ProLogis) have seriously understated the traffic that
a mega-depot at Pyestock would generate.
SPLAT presented their Proofs of Evidence challenging their 800 HGV
movements per day figure, only to discover when the Proofs were
exchanged ten days ago, that the Developers are currently negotiating an
agreement with Hampshire County Council that could permit 2,400 HGVs
per day…16,800 HGVs per week, (excluding large lorries with only 2
axles). Of course there will also be thousands of white vans and
cars every day.
We believe that this incredible volume of traffic will change forever
and devastate the area in which we live, causing dangerous traffic
congestion, increased noise, air and light pollution, health problems
and a serious loss of tranquillity at Fleet Pond Nature Reserve, other
conservation sites and an adjacent area of significant public amenity.
Andover mega shed routing agreement and number of HGV movements
dispute
The developer of the proposed mega shed at Andover has terminated their
agreement with Tesco as they could not reach a traffic routing agreement
and there was a dispute over the number of HGV movements.
The potential tripling of the HGV movements at Pyestock would enable
Tesco to have a mega shed here, causing a worst case scenario to our
area. Tesco were previously expected to be the main occupier at
Pyestock, as revealed in The Sunday Times

level of concern.
Successful Radlett mega depot opposition barrister is on our side!
The Secretary of State recently refused planning permission for a
massive mega depot at Radlett. The outcome after a public inquiry
concluded that it would constitute inappropriate development in the
Green Belt, cause a substantial loss of openness and contribute to urban
sprawl.
We believe similar reasons are applicable at Pyestock including loss of
the protected strategic gap and have already appointed Radlett’s local
residents group’s ‘excellent’ and successful barrister Paul Stinchcombe!
Inquiry starts at 10am, Tuesday 25 November
SPLAT will do everything we can to represent the views of everyone
opposed to the mega depot. However, your physical presence at this
Inquiry will send a strong message to the Inspector that people do care
about their community and are seriously concerned about the impact of
this inappropriate development. Do come and listen.
The two most important sessions are:
-
The Opening Day at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday November
25th at Hart Leisure Centre, Hitches Lane. Please come and observe
-
The Public Evening Session at which you can have your
say is at 7:00p.m. on Thursday December 4th also at Hart Leisure
Centre
The rest of the sessions will take place at Hart District
Council offices each weekday apart from Mondays, until the 19th of
December.
We know that this is a busy time for many people but we need to
demonstrate the strength of local feeling to the Inspector. The best way
to do this is to attend.
Each day there are two sessions (a.m. and p.m.) and you need not stay
for more than an hour or so. Just come, sign in and in so doing, let the
Inspector know you care.
